Chive

Today I harvested the first chive of the season (see photo of the plant in yeaterday’s Weekend Coffee Share). I enjoyed some of it on top of the broccoli pasta I had for lunch, it was delicious. I also added 1/4lbs bag of chives to the freezer. I love this time of the year when we can start enjoying the first crops, and fill up the freezer with produce.

What are you grateful for today?

    1. Yes! I have chive at many places in my garden as pest control (rodents seem to HATE it), but I also eat it :)

  3. Oh, nice! Mine is still quite small. Off to the movies today. Grateful for our cinema pass, which allows us to go to the movies weekly at a reasonable price.

    1. I am sure it will grow in no time. Enjoy the movies. What are you going to watch? I enjoy going to the movies but don’t go that often, it is rather expensive here.

    1. That is so wonderful! I am guessing it is slightly warmer where you live! I’ll have tomatoes in July.

      1. I’m already seeing formed green tomatoes, which seems early. The starter plants we buy are generally 90 too 100 day crops.

    1. Yes indeed! Is there any dish they don’t do well in? :)

  8. You inspired me to plant chives! I’m so excited for the first harvest—I really can’t wait. It feels like the perfect little green hope while the dill and salad are doing their best to survive this terribly cold spring we’re having this year.

    1. Wonderful! I love chives and they are such a great crop returning year after year, and faster the more you harvest :) My salad greens are also very slow due to the cold spring. It looks like is is getting very warm Thursday and Friday here, so things might take off in the garden. What is your favourite crop to grow, if you have one?

      1. Salad and cucumbers :) Also I love zucchini. I’m far from “a gardener” but I try… I had field with furrows last year, not sure about this year, will see :)
