I harvested half of my garlic yesterday.

The sizes varied, but overall I am happy with the result.

The purple ones are ”Otakar”,
and the white ones ”Therador”.
Trying the new drying rack.

I pulled up the rest of the garlic today.

I am going to dedicate more space to garlic this fall. I’m thinking about having strawberries as companion plants. I have an abundance of strawberry plants, and I’ve heard that garlic and strawberries are great companions, but haven’t tried that combo myself yet. Have you?

Today I am grateful for this year’s garlic harvest. I’m curing most of my garlic, but the smallest ones I use for infusions: fresh garlic, herbs, and olive oil. I use this as salad dressing, and on top of grilled vegetables. I have some in jars in the kitchen, and freeze some in large ice-cube trays. I often add one frozen infusion cube to soups/pasta/stews etc.

What are you grateful for today?

Maria

  3. That’s a lot of garlic, Maria! I love garlic in many things and use garlic salt too. Yummy in chili. Today I am simply grateful for today and that in itself is enough. Have a fun and safe weekend, Maria. β€οΈπŸ˜ŠπŸ‡ΈπŸ‡ͺ

      1. I hope you get your bike out for a ride, maybe around the entire lake? I wish we could ride together, Maria. 😊

  4. Always satisfying to harvest such a beautiful crop. Bet that shed has a heady scent, ha! I like the drying set up, nice and airy.
Grateful that today is clear and low humidity. Hopefully, the smoke won’t return. It looks like that area is getting some rain, which might help dampen the wildfires. Fingers crossed!

    1. Thank you, it is! The scent is slightly overwhelming, but I don’t need to spend time in the shed :) I do like the scent, but it can be kind of heavy in the early days of curing. I hope you get lots of rain. We had some thunderstorms and heavy rains last night. Today there’s a light drizzle from the sky. No need to water today.
