The last week before my vacation started we experienced a heat wave. I decided to invest in a portable air conditioner/air purifier (most houses in Sweden do not have air condition.) We are now experiencing a second heat wave, and I most grateful for my air condition. It is not as good as an air condition installed in the whole house, like we had when we lived in California and Nevada, but so far it kept us decently comfortable. I am most grateful for this relief from the worst heat. Our apartment has huge windows, all facing South-West..great during our long Swedish winters. We get lots of natural light and there is very little need for electric lights. As we discovered this year, having all your windows facing South-West during heat waves is not ultimate. (We do cover them during the day). One of the few down sides with our beloved town is that it is located in a deep hole, hot air (and cold air in the winter) tends to stay in town for extended periods of time. That also results in less air circulation those days, which affects our normally great air quality, which makes it unsuitable to sleep with the windows open (if you are sensitive). All in all, I am most grateful for my air condition! What are you grateful for today?

  1. I’m afraid air-con is becoming a necessity. I’m equally grateful for it today as we also are experiencing extreme heat, exacerbated by wildfire smoke from Canada. The sun this morning was an eery red orb! Air quality is not good (I’m sure you remember your CA days). :( On the up-note, this too shall pass. 🙏🏼

  2. Those devices work well, I saw one in a store and stood in front of it. They move a lot of air. As Eliza said, this heat will move on and before ya know it, there will be snow on the ground but let’s not rush it. As always, I am grateful for another day, Maria!

  3. We have a fan like that and central air conditioning, Maria. I’d die without both. And we have ceiling fans! Our four 8 foot tall windows face south, so yes, lots of sun and heat. Keep cool!

    1. Thank you! Stay cool my friend! Luckily, and hopefully the forecast is accurate, our heat is only staying for two more days.

    1. Thank you, yes, we are not used to this. I feel bad for the elderly that really struggle, many of them also live in older houses that aren’t built to handle heat.
