I love having a variety of marigolds in the garden. I love them for their beauty, colours, ability to attract pollinators and deter pests. Yesterday morning I noticed the first ones in bloom. What are you grateful for today?

  1. They are a garden staple, for sure. Mine have been slow to grow, but with the heat this week, I expect they will take off. Grateful for the beautiful serenade this morning of the Carolina wren, a summer treat!

    1. I agree, they are a necessity. Mine have been slow as well, and I can’t see any when I look around at the other allotments in the area, which is highly unusual.

  2. Hi Maria! I grow Calendula Resina for it’s medicinal properties and a patch of it is in full bloom right now in my garden, so I’ll second your daily gratitude from the high desert :-) Hope you have a great Monday!

    1. That is wonderful! I’ve dried some and made tea in the past. Some of my friends make lotion of them. How do you use them?

  4. The first one opened today! Do you seed them every year or let them self-seed?

    1. Yaay! I let them self seed, but I also collect an abundance of seed. I mostly collect seeds to be able to give them away, and store for “emergency years” (if there should ever be a shortage for some reason).

  5. Wonderful little flowers that alas do not grow very well in my shady yard. I guess, then, I must be grateful for begonias.

    1. There’s a flower for every garden :) We often had begonias indoors in my childhood home, they are beautiful.
