Hiking is a lifelong hobby of mine. I think it is one of the best ways to enjoy nature. You can move silently on the trail, and let yourself be completely absorbed by the surroundings, or enjoy the views with friends. The hike in today’s post takes place in Northern California in the vicinity of Shasta Dam, with Shasta Lake and Mt Shasta in the background. This is an area where I frequently used to hike while living in Northern California. It is breathtaking in every direction.

When I first caught sight of (Mount Shasta) over the braided folds of the Sacramento Valley I was fifty miles away and afoot, alone and weary. Yet all my blood turned to wine, and I have not been weary since. – John Muir

What are you grateful for today?

    1. Yes we do Eliza! So many beautiful places, still I would not want to live there again.

Life is good :) Looking forward to enjoying some time off this Easter.

    1. Thank you John! …but you live so close! Perhaps a road trip in the future? I drove between NorCal and Las Vegas a few times, usually spending a night in Reno on the way.

      1. Reno, another town I’ve never been to. It’s like 400 miles northwest of here, too far. I’m a a real home body, Maria.

              1. I would start with a run north to Reno and Lake Tahoe…

                1. So much to see and enjoy there, and on the way there :) You’ll likely see some wild horses on the way. While in Reno you should make a detour to Virginia City. That is an experience you won’t forget. Reno is like smaller Las Vegas up in the mountains in some ways. You can stay at a fancy hotel at one of the casinos for cheap.

                  1. Thank you for this info, Maria! I could take the car up there but would rather rent a car to keep the bugs off of mine! 😂
