Garlic from my garden

I admire people that aim for some degree of self-sufficiency. I do that myself. However I believe that I’ve settled to aim for for a healthier degree of self-sufficiency, compared to my goals as a young adult. I love growing my own vegetables, but I don’t fret about not growing everything my family eat myself. I am being more generous to myself, it allows me to feel grateful for accomplishments in a way I didn’t allow myself previously. I still aim to grow the majority of our food, but I can also be very happy for what I actually do today. While cooking lunch for me and my daughter earlier I reached out to grab one of the garlics, reflecting over the fact that garlic is actually a crop that I am completely self-sufficient in, and it is a crop my family and friends appreciate. That made me feel very grateful.

What are you grateful for today?

  1. Garlic is delicious! I am grateful for a warm home on a slightly chilly desert morning and the much warmer weather coming next week. Have a great weekend, Maria!

  2. Maria, please can I have garlic envy? I’d love to grow garlic even a clove but the temp in my part of Portugal is too warm and we dont get frost

  3. This morning I made hummus (with my own garlic) and yogurt from local raw milk. It’s ridiculous how much they charge in a store for these things, and besides, homemade tastes so much better!
