Nothing makes me feel rich in the garden as when my berry bushes are full of ripe berries. When I first got my allotment I started to plant a variety of berry bushes, and now I have many different berry bushes at my allotment garden. Raspberries are my children’s favourite, even now when they are older. The raspberries are usually ripe around my daughter’s birthday and she always wants raspberries in her birthday cake. Sometimes she wants a raspberry/chocolate cake and another year it might be raspberry/vanilla, but there’s always raspberries.

It is easy to grow your own berries. Berry bushes grow well in a small space, even in a pot at a balcony. Organic berries are very expensive when purchasing them at a grocery store, but it is not very difficult to be self-sustainable when it comes to growing your own berries. Berries are delicious and full of vitamins and nutrients that we need. Do you grow any berries? What kind? Do you have a favourite berry?

  1. I can’t grow anything Marie but my mom could grow everything! I like your daughter’s choice of birthday cake, yummy!

      1. Perhaps but what is a good plant to begin with?

        1. If you pick a self-watering container you can have any that you like. It is difficult to fail with a self-watering container, especially if you pick a larger one.

If you want to plant something in the ground pomegranate and figs are low maintenance in Las Vegas.

  2. I’ll eat almost any berry!
When we lived on the west coast, my favourite was the salmonberry – seeing them was (sometimes!) an indicator spring – late May – had fully arrived, the worst of the rains were behind us, and if we found a few before the bears and birds, they were very tasty!
Salal and blackberries were abundant out there as well.
