Around this time of the year I start to dream about gardening. My allotment garden is my favourite place. I force myself to wait until February to open my treasure box of seeds that I’ve saved. It is almost February! I made today’s photo extra large so that you can feel like you step into my garden. The photo is from August last year. The state of my garden is ever-changing, most of my garden beds are the home of 2-3 different crops in one year. I’ll try my best to have new plants ready at all times, to make the best use of the space. This year I already have several garden beds with garlic, and one mixed bed with red onions and yellow onions waiting under the snow (I planted them in November). I usually grow a lot of green onions as well. I love cooking with green onions and garlic, so those crops are a priority. I start the green onions outdoors in February using a cold sowing method. Winter sowing is my preferred method for most crops. Why make it more difficult than it has to be? My garden is something I am very grateful for. I am certain that it helps me stay sane in stressful times. I am motivated to get there and I usually ride my bike to the garden, so it is also good for my physical health in more than one way. Being able to grow a large part of our vegetables, berries and some fruit makes it easier and more affordable to choose organic food.

What are you grateful for today? Would you like to join me in this Daily Gratitude Practice 2026?
