Welcome to this weekend coffee share. Can I get you some coffee? Or tea? We’ve had our first frost this week. As I write this it is -2C/28F. Those who weren’t sleeping last night could experience a magical northern light..I was sleeping soundly in my bed and saw my friends photos when I woke up.

I still have a lingering cough from last week, but I am feeling better. I had to go to my allotment garden yesterday to check on things. It felt cold in the morning when I rode my bike there, on the way back it was very pleasant.

Unfortunately the voles had been taking bites out of almost all my beets. It has been a bad year when it comes to little critters. Luckily they didn’t touch my first harvest of beets.

I brought the last of the yellow and red onions home yesterday, but still have lots of green onions left to harvest. The variety of green onion that I plant can be left out through the winter and harvested when needed. I’ll take care of them before Christmas, at least that is my goal.

I say thank you to the marigolds and let them sleep in for now. They’ve had an abundant presence this year (as usual). I love marigolds!

There’s plenty of food for birds in my garden, like these sunflowers. I will tidy up a little bit, but be sure to save some for them. I also save some berries on purpose, for them to munch on during winter.

The first frost is magical in its own way, an ending and a beginning at the same time. I think it is very beautiful.

My little strawberry patch have offered plenty of yummy berries this year. We are most grateful, especially my daughter.

The herbs will be covered with an insulating layer of leaves, and hopefully they will survive the winter. They are usually grown as annual here, so if they do survive it is a bonus.
Before leaving my garden yesterday I planted hardy varieties of yellow and red onions for an early harvest next year. It is still too early to plant garlic. The days are too warm. I’ll plant the garlic in November.

How is your week? Are you enjoying a wonderful autumn? What is the weather like in your corner of the world?
I forgot to mention that my daughter and I visited a nearby nursery yesterday. She’d been asking to get an aloe vera plant for her new room. When we got to the nursery they had 40% off on all green plants. That is dangerous when one love plants as much as I do. It was really difficult for me to not bring more plants home! It is a beautiful nursery and the plants were all magnificent. My daughter do have room for more plants in her room, but I have to think very carefully before getting more plants, I need to have somewhere to put them, without it looking too crowded. Plants have a tendency to grow quickly and multiply in numbers in a blink of an eye. We ended up only getting the aloe vera for my daughter and a beautiful yellow pot for it (also on her wish list). It was a wonderful little outing and we both enjoyed our time together very much. My daughter get a small allowance of about $50/month and she is SO good with her money! She saves up, and when she has a lot on her savings account she asks me to invest some of it in stocks. Every once in a while she asks if she can use some of her money to purchase things like a new plant to her room. I am very proud of her for making good choices.
Today is going to be a well needed day of rest. I started to watch “1883″ on Netflix yesterday, and I’ll probably watch a few more episodes, while sipping some hot tea hoping for my cough to completely vanish before the start of the new work week. Thank you Natalie for hosting the weekend coffee share.
