Welcome to the last coffee share of the month. The weekend coffee share is an informal chat where we enjoy a cup of coffee or tea together, while we talk about the happenings of the week. It is so nice that you decided to join us.

Are we officially entering fall next week? I’ve noticed that some of the birch trees outside my window are starting to get a few yellow leaves here and there. How are you doing this week?

Perhaps you’ve noticed that there’s some small changes to the site every week? This is a rather new blog and I’ve been letting it take the time it takes without rushing anything. One step I took this week was to turn it into a personal blog, rather than just the free site with ads. I also decided to get a custom domain name greendreamssweden.com. What else happened this week?

Work and school was great, I truly love working part time and going to school part time. It is very full-filling. On my free-time this week I took many walks. The weather’s been perfect for long walks with temperatures around 66F/19C most days.

No matter what direction I walk from my house I’ll most likely end up walking on a trail next to either a bigger lake, or a trail next to one of the smaller lakes.

Naturally there’s also been some biking and gardening this week. Most of my bike rides were to the garden, but not all of them. I also went on a couple of evening rides just for fun.

Some animal messed with my sweet potatoes.

When I came to my allotment garden yesterday afternoon someone had been messing with several garden beds digging big holes in them. Everything is fenced in..I believe it is a big red cat that I’ve seen in and around my garden several times. If he’s been hunting vole it is perfectly fine by me, then I hope his hunt is successful.

I believe pests in the garden in the shape of larger animals than aphids is a bigger problem in a garden that is further away from one’s house, like an allotment garden. I spend time at my allotment several days a week during the growing season, but there are days when I do not visit at all.

On a happier note, I’ve picked some more raspberries and strawberries this week. I also harvested the last of the carrots. I’ve also been eating radishes, beets and tomatoes from the garden this week.

My daughter and I have been processing apples that we picked last week, several days this week. I often make apple sauce with very little sugar that I freeze, but this year I am also making apple jam, like regular jam with pieces of apples in and a normal amount of sugar. The main reason for not making only apple sauce this year is to be able to store it without a freezer.

What is happening in your corner of the world this week? Please have a refill on that coffee and tell me all about it! Thank you Natalie for hosting the Weekend Coffee Share despite the tragedies of the week.

  1. You walks look so lovely! I have never thought of making apple jam but that sounds yummy. It’s nearly time to start picking apples here.

    1. Thank you! I do enjoy going for walks, but I miss having a dog to bring on my walks, I walked so much more when I had a dog. We’ll see what the future brings.

It is only at the beginning for the apple season here, the main harvest is still in the future. Have a wonderful rest of your weekend.

  2. Congratulations on getting your custom domain.

There is something extra relaxing about walking near the lake. I walked around the lake almost every day this summer, and enjoyed each walk.

    Happy Saturday, Maria.

    1. Thank you! Yes, I do enjoy walking by the lake. It is different compared to walking in the forest, something I enjoy very much as well.

      Happy Saturday!

  3. Your apple jam looks delicious. On the other side of the world, we have been making bitter orange marmalade as winter ends. Lovely to see your garden plants too.

  4. Thank you! Orange marmalade is a favourite, even though we can not grow our own oranges.

  5. Sounds like a great week with a lot of changes in the air. And apples already? Maybe you are starting fall! And with temps being 66F – perfect.

I hope you are enjoying your weekend and that you have a wonderful week ahead, one as good as last week :)

    1. Thank you! September is going to be a super busy month, August was easing in to the back-to-work/back-to-school life. Have a wonderful rest of your weekend and week to come!

  6. Ugh, I know that feeling. I have the constant suspicion that there’s something coming to mess with my garden at night in the form of a black cat, especially when I find the mulch moved aside the next morning. Maybe it’s gardener paranoia. 😄

  7. I love your HAIR! And apple jam sounds amazing! Sorry to hear about your potatoes. I think there is a raccoon in one of our trees, from the droppings I’ve found. He eats my neighbors mulberries and he comes to our yard to use the facilities.

    1. Thank you so much!! We tried the apple jam on some scones and that combo wasn’t too bad.

Racoons can be really difficult. I do not have any problem with them right now, but I know it can be bad. I hope he stay clear from your garden in the future.

  8. Your garden looks much more successful than mine. I got a total of four or five small already cooked tomatoes from my huge tomato vine. It takes up about a fifth of my garden, and is all leaves and branches. Congratulations on your new domain. What are you going to do with it? I sincerely hope you don’t have raccoons. They are a pain. Take care and enjoy your last few days of August.

    1. Thank you! Some years are not tomato years..I’d say that this year wasn’t the best. Last year was wonderful. with a warm spring. This year we had a cold spring. Better luck with your garden next year.

I enjoy blogging as a creative outlet, staying in touch with friends, to inspire and be inspired :) No big agenda other than that.

Have a wonderful rest of your weekend and new week/month to come!

      1. Thanks, Maria. I am right there with you. This is my thirteenth year, and I haven’t grown tired of it. I don’t get around to everyone as much as I’d like. It takes me hours. I’m such a slow reader and I get stuck in rabbit holes. :) xxx

        1. If one do it for fun and not as a side hustle or something, fun is the key :) I haver been blogging since 2010, on other blogs. I’ve tended to start writing about work in many posts and felt that I needed to have a blog where it is only (or at least mostly) about all the other things in life that inspire me.

          1. You have me beat by two years. I started in 2012 just before I retired. I had to retire, I was spending so much time blogging I could hardly think about anything else. I fell in love with the connectivity.

  9. I am glad that your work/school schedule is working well for you. Balance is everything!
Your weather sounds perfect. Our weather has been so nice as well, 70s/day and as low as upper 40s at night. The annuals are taking the message and starting to slow down. Likewise, a few leaves on the trees are yellowing and letting go in the breezes. I’m adjusting my mind to let go of the warm days of summer. It is always a bit hard at first! How is H adjusting to her new school year?

    1. Seasonal changes are bitter sweet. I purposely left many blanks in my schedule for August, to sort of ease in to things. September is going to be a busier month, with more school seminars, a two-day trip, and we are going to move at the end of the month. I am ready fro the challenge of September! After that there’s more room to breath again. If one know it is only a short period of super-busy it is easier to handle.

H start of the school year has been amazing! She has grown a lot during the summer and in combination with a new teacher that really seem to understand her the start succeeded my expectations (hers as well).

Have a wonderful rest of your weekend!

  11. I love that schedule — working part time and going to school part-time. I was on sabbatical for about six weeks. I spent a lot of it travelling. When we came, I had to prepare my kid to start grade school. It was very busy. Then I returned to work wishing I was still on my sabbatical. If I could, I would work part time, but then my daugher and I would be without affordable health insurance.

  12. Sounds like you’ve had a productive week! Those fresh raspberries and strawberries from your garden sound amazing. I’ve been busy on my end too, recently rented a dumpster to tackle a big yard cleanup project. It’s been a game-changer for clearing out old branches and garden debris, but I think I’ll stick to enjoying your gardening stories instead of dealing with my mess for a while! Hope you have a great week ahead!
