Welcome to the weekend coffee share this last week of my vacation. Can I get you a cup of coffee? This last week of total freedom has been very relaxing, I have been on bike rides, but there’s been fewer miles compared to the rest of the vacation due to heavy rains. The temperature is very comfortable around 22C/71F most days. What’s the weather like in your neck of the woods?
At the beginning of my vacation I wrote about my biking goal of riding 50-80km/week ~ approximately 30-50miles/week. I am happy to say that I rode a total of 347km/215.6miles during my four weeks of vacation, which is slightly more than the goal. The goal felt reasonable, I had to work for it, but there was some room for those days with bad weather. When I start working my goal is to ride 30-40km/week, approximately 18.6-24.8 miles/week. I have a gym membership but I have to say that I prefer to exercise outside year round.

One frequent destination for my bike rides is of course my allotment garden. July’s warmer weather have been beneficial for the crops, especially the ones demanding warmer temperatures. The sweet potatoes (above) finally started to grow a little. We’ll see if the season is long enough for any real harvest.

I grew garlic in this bed and after harvesting the garlic I replaced them with beets, that are cold hardy as long as they’ve grown in to some size before the cold hits. They should have enough time this fall. It is typically a fall crop in our area.

This is also beets, planted about one week earlier. I took this photo (above) on Wednesday and today Friday they were visibly bigger (it rained all day yesterday.)

Speaking of cleaning out dead, or half dead flowers, this is another garden bed that I cleaned out, fertilised, and re-planted with fall crops. In this beds there’s going to bed radishes, Ishikura onions, and three different varieties of beets. I also gambled and planted a few broccolis here, but they likely won’t have enough time to develop…but maybe?
I’m not going to talk a lot about work here, as I stated in my About page, but all things considered I have to say that in a way it feels exciting getting back to work on Monday. I am going to work at a new (old) school. I have worked at this school a few years back and now I am once again placed at this school. I am going to work part time and go to school part time. Even though it is always a little sad when the vacation is over, I have a good feeling about this coming school year.
That’s enough of my week, how is your week? Please tell me in a comment! Thank you Natalie for hosting the weekend coffee share.
