I told you in a previous post that I am keeping a close eye at my berry bushes to discover when the berries are ripe (hopefully before the birds discover it.) Today I discovered that some of the red currants (and black currants) are ready for picking. The red ones are so refreshing! I love making lemonade and jam with them. Growing up I often made a red currant cake for my siblings.

Luckily they don’t all ripe at the same time. Usually the ones at the top that gets more sunshine ripens first, and later on the rest of the bush. In my head I’ve been thinking that I have around 15 berry bushes, but today when I was checking them for ripe berries it just felt like more than that, so I had to count them..there are actually 24 berry bushes now, not counting the raspberries (they are everywhere, almost like a weed.) Some of the berry bushes are young, but there is still a lot of berries to be picked. It is a very good thing that I am on vacation! Do you grow any kind of berries? Do you have a favourite berry?
